When the Quran Confirms the Bible, But Contradicts It at the SameĀ Time.
Why Does This EvenĀ Matter?
Brothers and sisters, have you ever wondered what the Quran actually says about theĀ Bible?
Itās a fair question. And itās an importantĀ one.
In the Quran, there are several passages that confirm the earlier Scriptures, the Tawrat (Torah) of Moses and the Injil (Gospel) of Jesus, as coming directly fromĀ God.
But hereās the problem. When you compare what the Quran says with what the Bible actually teaches, you find real contradictions. Not small ones. MajorĀ ones.
Brothers and sisters, if both books came from God, this should never happen. God does not contradictĀ Himself.
What Does the Quran Say About theĀ Bible?
The Quran states clearly that God gave the Torah and the Injil (theĀ Gospel).
āHe has sent down to you the Book in truth, confirming what was before it. And He revealed the Torah and theĀ Gospel.ā ā Ali āImran 3:3
āAnd We sent, following in their footsteps, Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming that which came before him in the Torah. And We gave him the Injil (the Gospel), in which was guidance and light, confirming that which preceded it of the Torah, as guidance and instruction for the righteous. And let the people of the Gospel judge by what God revealed therein. And whoever does not judge by what God has revealed, those are the defiantlyĀ disobedient.ā ā Al-Maāidah 5:46-47
Brothers and sisters, this is not a small detail. The Quran does not just mention the Bible in passing. It calls it guidance. It calls itĀ light.
What Are the Undeniable Contradictions Between the Quran and theĀ Bible?
So if the Quran confirms the Bible as Godās word, why do the two books disagree soĀ sharply?
Letās look honestly at theĀ evidence.
Clear Points ofĀ Contradiction:
| The Bible | TheĀ Quran |
|---|---|
| God created the world in 6 days (Genesis 1) | God created in 2 days (Quran 41:9-12) |
| Jesus was crucified on the cross (Matthew 27) | Jesus was not crucified, it only appeared that way (An-Nisa 4:157) |
| Jesus is the Son of God (John 3:16) | God has no son (Al-Ikhlas 112:3) |
| Jesus received worship (Matthew 2:11) | Jesus is presented only as a prophet, never as one to beĀ worshiped |
| Jesus died to atone for sin (1 Corinthians 15:3) | Every person bears their own sin (Quran 6:164) |
So Who Is Wrong? The Bible or theĀ Quran?
There are only two possibilities here, brothers andĀ sisters.
- If the Bible is true, then the Quran, which contradicts it, cannot be fromĀ God.
- If the Bible is not true, then the Quran is still wrong, because the Quran itself declares that the Bible came fromĀ God.
Either way you look at it, this contradiction points to one conclusion. The Quran cannot be the word ofĀ God.
Is There an Explanation Muslims Give forĀ This?
Some will say, āthe Bible has been destroyed.ā They often point to a verse that says the People of the Book threw the Scripture behind theirĀ backs.
āAnd when a messenger from Allah came to them confirming that which was with them, a party of those who had been given the Scripture threw the Scripture of Allah behind their backs as if they did notĀ know.ā ā Al-Baqarah 2:101
āAnd [mention, O Muhammad], when Allah took a covenant from those who were given the Scripture, saying, āYou must make it clear to the people and not conceal it.ā But they threw it away behind their backs and exchanged it for a smallĀ price.ā ā Ali āImran 3:187
Brothers and sisters, notice something important here. These verses are talking about people neglecting, hiding, or disregarding the Scripture. They are not saying the text itself was destroyed orĀ erased.
And listen carefully, because in other places the Quran says the opposite about Godās wordĀ itself.
āAnd the word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and justice. None can change His words. And He is the Hearing, theĀ Knowing.ā ā Al-Anāam 6:115
āAnd recite what has been revealed to you of the Book of your Lord. There is none who can change His words, and never will you find besides Him aĀ refuge.ā ā Al-Kahf 18:27
Brothers and sisters, if Godās word cannot be changed, then why would the Bible have beenĀ changed?
Are There Other Claims Muslims Make That Arenāt Even in theĀ Quran?
Now hereās something important, brothers and sisters. Many of the arguments you hear about the Bible being destroyed or corrupted donāt actually come from the Quran at all. They come from later tradition, popular teaching, and stories passed down through theĀ centuries.
Let me walk through a few of the most commonĀ ones.
- The āCouncil of Nicaea removed booksā story. Many people believe that in 325 AD, church leaders voted on which books belonged in the Bible and burned or hid the rest, sometimes with a legend that God performed a miracle to separate the ātrueā books from the āfalseā ones on a table. Brothers and sisters, this is not history. The Council of Nicaea was called to settle a debate about the nature of Christ, not to decide the biblical canon. That ātable miracleā story actually comes from a document written five hundred years later, in the ninth century. It is a legend, not a record. (You can read more on this here: No, Nicaea Didnāt Create theĀ Canon.)
- āLook how many versions of the Bible there are.ā Someone points to the KJV, the NIV, the ESV, and asks how you can trust a book with so many versions. But brothers and sisters, these are translations, not different scriptures. They all come from the same underlying Hebrew and Greek manuscripts. Having many English translations is no different than having many Thai translations of the same book. The message has not changed. (See: What are the different English BibleĀ versions?)
- āBut the Quran only has one version.ā This sounds convincing until you look at the history. Caliph Uthman ordered every competing copy of the Quran destroyed so only one official version would remain, and this is documented in early Islamic sources. Think about that for a moment. There is only one Quran text today because the others were burned. There are thousands of Bible manuscripts with small variations today because nothing was ever burned. And that is actually good news, because it means scholars can compare thousands of ancient copies side by side and confirm with real confidence what the original said. (Source: Sahih al-BukhariĀ 4987)
- Even early Muslim scholars did not believe this. The claim that the Bibleās text itself was corrupted was barely made at all until centuries after Muhammad. It really took hold with a scholar named Ibn Hazm in the eleventh century, four hundred years after the Quran was revealed. Before that time, many Muslim scholars believed the text of the Bible remained intact. Their disagreement was over interpretation, not the words themselves. (See:Ā Tahrif)
So brothers and sisters, when someone tells you the Bible was destroyed or corrupted, gently ask them where that claim actually comes from. More often than not, it did not come from the Quran. It came muchĀ later.
Is the Bible We Use Today the Same as theĀ Original?
Historical evidence and ancient manuscripts show something remarkable. The Bible we hold in our hands today is the same Bible that Christians and Jews were using in the firstĀ centuries.
Historical discoveries like the Dead Sea Scrolls, and ancient manuscripts like Codex Sinaiticus and Codex Sassoon, all confirm that the text of Scripture today is remarkably consistent with the originalĀ writings.
Yes, there are small variations here and there. But brothers and sisters, none of them change the core message. Thousands of ancient manuscripts in Greek, Hebrew, and other early languages have been studied, and they all point to the same conclusion. The Bible is reliable. The Bible has beenĀ preserved.
What This AllĀ Means
- The Quran confirms that the Bible came fromĀ God.
- Yet the content of the Quran contradicts theĀ Bible.
- And the Quran itself says no one can change the word ofĀ God.
So Hereās the BottomĀ Line
If the Bible is right, the Quran isĀ wrong. If the Bible is wrong, the Quran is wrong too, because it confirmed somethingĀ false.
Either way, brothers and sisters, the Quran cannotĀ stand.
If you are searching for the truth, I want to encourage you. Open the Bible. Read it with your own eyes. And pray, really pray, with a sincere heart before God. Ask Him to guide your mind. Ask Him to open your understanding. Ask Him to give you wisdom to see what isĀ true.
Because when you seek Him with all your heart, He promises you will findĀ Him.
āYou will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all yourĀ heart.ā ā Jeremiah 29:13
