Dependency on AI: Why You Must Choose Divine Intelligence Instead

Brothers and sisters, let me ask you something simple today.

If your phone died right now. If the internet went down. If every app on your screen just stopped working, would you panic?

Would you feel lost?

That question matters more than you think. Because it reveals something about your heart. It shows where your dependency really lives.

We live in a season where AI is everywhere. It writes for us. It thinks for us. It answers every question before we even finish asking it. And listen, I am not against AI. I use it too. It is a tool, and tools are not evil.

But dependency on AI is a different story. And today I want to talk to you about that, from a place of love, from a place of concern for your soul.

Is Dependency on AI Becoming a Spiritual Problem?

Here is how you know.

Take AI away for one day. Just one day. If you feel panic rising in your chest, if you feel like you cannot function, if you feel like your peace is gone, that is not a small thing, brothers and sisters. That is a warning sign.

Money works the same way. Money is a good servant but a terrible master. The Bible warned us about this a long time ago.

“No one can serve two masters, for you will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.” — Matthew 6:24 NLT

AI can become the same kind of master if we are not careful. Not because AI is evil. But because our hearts are quick to lean on whatever is easiest.

What Does Unhealthy Dependency on AI Look Like?

Let me paint the picture for you. See if you recognize yourself here.

  • You ask AI what to think about a situation instead of praying about it first
  • You ask AI for opinions on decisions instead of seeking wise counsel and the Lord
  • You feel anxious or lost without a device or a tool to guide you
  • You let AI do the thinking that God gave you a mind and a spirit to do
  • You have stopped wrestling with hard questions because AI gives you an instant answer

Brothers and sisters, when you ask something for its opinion again and again, when you let it think for you, you are quietly handing over a part of yourself. And you may not even notice it happening. That is how dependency always works. Slowly. Quietly. Until one day it is not a tool anymore. It is a crutch.

Why Is This So Dangerous for Our Faith?

Here is the deeper truth. This is not really about technology. This is about the human heart.

We were made to depend on God first. Not on systems. Not on tools. Not on anything that we can build with our own hands.

“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses. But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.” — Psalm 20:7 NLT

Every generation faces a version of this same test. In the old days it was chariots and horses. Today it might be AI, money, or systems that promise to make life easier. The test never changes. Will you trust what you can see and touch, or will you trust the God you cannot see but who never fails?

Brothers and sisters, this is also about identity. When you lean on AI for everything, when your work, your thinking, your decisions all pass through it first, your sense of who you are starts to attach itself to that tool. And if that tool is ever taken away, you can feel like you lost yourself. Not because you actually did. But because you built your identity on the wrong foundation.

Your identity was never meant to live in a tool. It was meant to live in Christ, seated with Him in the authority He gave you, not in whatever device happens to be in your hand.

“My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” — Galatians 2:20 NLT

How Do We Fix a Heart That Depends on the Wrong Things?

This is where I want to encourage you, not just warn you. Because there is a way forward, and it is beautiful.

Start seeking God directly again.

Not through a screen. Not through a search bar. Through prayer, through His word, through quiet time where it is just you and Him. If you are not sure where to even begin carving out that space in a busy life, this is exactly what it looks like to honor God with your time, even when your schedule feels impossible.

I want to be honest with you. I am someone who is still learning to hear the voice of God. I have not arrived. I am still seeking, still growing, still asking Him to teach me. But here is what I have learned along the way, and I want to pass it on to you.

Make fasting and prayer a lifestyle, not an emergency plan.

You do not have to wait until trouble comes to start fasting. Start small. Skip one meal. Spend that time in prayer instead. Small consistent steps matter more than one dramatic three day fast that never gets repeated.

If your mind wanders during prayer, that is okay. You are not alone in that.

I struggle with this too. My mind drifts, I get tired, sometimes I even fall asleep trying to pray. So here is what I do instead. I get up and I walk. I walk while I praise God, while I pray, while I declare His promises out loud. Sometimes movement helps the heart focus when the body wants to rest.

Remember, posture is not the point. Your heart is the point.

Kneeling is good. But kneeling with a wandering heart is not the same as standing with a surrendered heart. God is not looking at your outside posture. He is looking at what is happening inside you.

Use AI wisely, the way Moses used his staff.

Remember the story. God told Moses to throw his staff on the ground. The moment it hit the ground, it turned into a snake. Moses ran from it. Anyone would.

But God did not tell him to run. God told him to reach out and grab it by the tail.

“Then the LORD said to him, ‘Reach out and grab it by the tail.’ So Moses reached out and grabbed it, and it became a staff in his hand.” — Exodus 4:4 NLT

Think about that for a moment. A snake in the wrong hands is dangerous. It bites. It poisons. It controls you. But in Moses’ hand, once he obeyed God and took hold of it the right way, it turned back into a staff. The same object. Two completely different outcomes, depending on who was in control of it.

That is exactly the picture here, brothers and sisters. AI can be a staff, or it can be a snake. It depends on whether you are holding it the way God tells you to, with wisdom, with discernment, with your identity and your trust still fixed on Him. Or whether you have let it slither loose in your life, shaping your thoughts, your decisions, your peace, until it is the one gripping you instead of you gripping it.

Moses did not throw away his staff. He did not run from it forever either. He obeyed God, took hold of it firmly, and it became useful in his hand again. That is your invitation too. Do not be afraid of the tool. But do not let it control you. Take hold of it the way God shows you. A staff in your hand, not a god you bow down to. A tool you use with wisdom, not a voice you obey without question.

What Is the Real Reward of Choosing Divine Intelligence Over AI?

Here is the beautiful part, brothers and sisters.

Those who master a skill and then use AI to sharpen it, they produce something better than those who just let AI do everything for them. The expert who prays and seeks God and then uses tools wisely will always outlast the person who has no foundation of their own.

If the tool gets taken away, who are you? Are you still the same person people turn to for wisdom? Or did you disappear along with the tool?

Do not put your soul into something that was never designed to carry it. Keep your soul with the Lord. Let your peace stay rooted in Him. Let AI stay in its proper place, a staff in your hand, not the ground you stand on.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5 NLT

Choosing Divine Intelligence Over AI: A Quick Summary

Here is the heart of it, at a glance:

  • Identify the dependency — Notice when AI, money, or any tool starts carrying weight only God was meant to carry.
  • Guard your identity — Your identity lives in Christ, not in a tool that can be taken away.
  • Seek God directly — Prayer and His word first, not a screen first.
  • Make fasting and prayer a lifestyle — Small and consistent beats occasional and dramatic.
  • Hold the staff, don’t become the snake’s servant — Use AI with wisdom and discernment, never without question.
  • Be an expert — Build real skill and real intimacy with God, and use AI to sharpen it, not replace it.

Will You Choose the Staff, or the Snake?

Brothers and sisters, I want to leave you with a few honest questions today. Do not rush past them.

  • What do you turn to first when you are stressed? God, or something else?
  • If AI, money, or any tool disappeared tomorrow, would your identity survive?
  • What would it look like this week to seek the Lord first, before you seek an answer anywhere else?

You do not have to figure this all out today. Just start. Start small. Fast one meal. Pray one honest prayer. Open His word for five quiet minutes and ponder on it throughout the day.

Do not wait for tribulation to teach you what devotion should have taught you all along.

Seek Him early, brothers and sisters. Seek Him first. He is not just useful. He is worthy. And He will never leave you the way a server outage or a system failure will.

Reflect on This Today

  1. What do you turn to first when you are stressed, God or something else?
  2. If AI, money, or any tool disappeared tomorrow, would your identity survive?
  3. What would it look like this week to seek the Lord first, before you seek an answer anywhere else?
